I actually did start a business several years ago and operated for over ten years. Most might categorize it as a failure, but we don’t see it that way. In the long run, we barely broke even, but it provided an income at times when we needed it and it was a wonderful example to our kids of depending on ourselves to make our own way.
The one thing I found out the hard way though, was that for all the ads and hype to the contrary, our Canadian government is not there to help entrepreneurs. Rather than providing assistance of any kind, we are more apt to have the stresses of dealing with creditors such as Revenue Canada and other government regulating departments piling on with all the other stresses and hurdles, making our goals almost impossible to achieve.
With my unsuccessful attempt in mind, I was impressed to read on Wikipedia.org about BuildDirect.com, an e-commerce company specializing in online ordering and supply of building materials based in Vancouver, British Columbia.
They negotiated several ups and downs in establishing their business and were genius in how they weathered financial downturns by gaining the cooperation of suppliers, etc.
I was also impressed to read the many positive BuildDirect reviews that exist.
Considering they’re only one hour away from Chilliwack, we’re definitely going to check them in future when we need anything for our home.
